I have seen bumble bees flying under my door step – was wondering do bumble bees make honey or is it only the streamline worker bees?

If bumbles do make honey:

1) How do I remove it

2) What is the right time for removal

3) What kind of equipments do I need – 2nd preferable!!!

Any help will be great

Hi newbeeSK welcome to the forum,

OK lets define the difference. Bumble bees are the fatter fuzzier bees. Honey bees are the more streamlined (wasp like shaped) bees.

Bumble bees do make honey but most stay in very small numbers or they are solitary. This means that any honey produced is required for the next generation of bumblers. There wouldnt be enough to bother about anyway. So the answer is yes they do make honey but no you shouldnt take it because its not worth your while and the bumblers need all of it.

My parents house gets a lot of masonary bees, Ive never seen any programmes or anything about them and no littel about their hive structure and honey producing capabilities. Oi Attenborough! Pull your finger out and do masonary bees! heheTongue
