The Bungay Community Bee Group (BCB) as well as keeping bees
helps with education and engagement. The Bungay Bee Hive Day on Sunday
24th July is the biggest outreach event BCB have organised so far. At
this celebration of ‘all things bee’ with there will be a full
programme of talks, walks and ongoing activities for adults and
children, with a focus on insect pollination, biodiversity and what
each of us can do to help restore balance in our overstretched
environment.

There will be something for everyone: visit the central observation
hive with live bees, the display of our recent venture into top bar
hives and the stalls selling bee-friendly plants and honey. Learn how
to make bug hotels and beeswax candles.

Come and listen (and talk) to the guest speakers from the River of
Flowers project (who plant ‘urban meadows’ to help bees,
butterflies and hoverflies find forage in cities) and the Natural
Beekeeping Trust (who explore beekeeping on an earth-friendly scale).
Or hear about the healing power of honey.

On the bee and flower walk you’ll visit a variety of ‘green
spaces’ in Bungay (including the burgeoning Library Courtyard
Community Garden) on the lookout for the wild (and not so wild)
flowers that the bees are visiting.

Throughout the day you’ll be able to talk to Bungay Community
Beekeepers about all our activities and even join the group if you
haven’t yet subscribed.

Oh, and calling all bakers. If you bake and bring along a honey cake
and enter it into the competion, you could win a £15 gift voucher
from Humble Cake.
